In 1917, Samuel Targovnik began
making umbrellas at his home while he was working for a retail umbrella
store. Soon, he opened his own manufacturing and contracting company with
his son, Rubin, and named the new business, "Targovnik &
Son". Later , Samuel turned the business over to Rubin, who's son
Alfred joined the company. Together they manufactured high end umbrellas
and findings for most fine wholesalers.
By 1970, after 10 years of over saturation of
cheap Asian imports, the umbrella trade had been ravaged. The retail
climate wanted these throw away folding umbrellas, and at this point
Alfred, along with his brother-in-law, began converting their sewing
machines to the manufacture of neckwear. Kings Choice neckwear was born.
As growth continued, Alfred's
son, Brian, after working many summers, joined the company. Together they
built Kings Choice to be the largest contractor to the fine quality
neckwear trade.
